Found in "Apprenticeship Bindings, Vol. 2, 1695-1717" for the Butcher Company (Guild) was the following entry which has parts that are difficult to read and quote:
"6th Aprill 1699
Will(ia)m Atterberry (father) Willi(am) Atterberry ---- St. Giles Cripplegate Conty Midd(lese)x Blacksmith ---- apprenticed (to) John Wigley (et law London) 7 anno (yers)"
From LDS microfilm No. 1067890, item 2, located by John Atterbury who feels that this document proves that William the Butcher is the son of William the Blacksmith. The younger William was the first child of William the Blacksmith and his wife Jane, and was christened April 5 1685 in St. Giles Cripple gate. Thus, he was just 14 years of age when he began his apprecticeship. Another Butcher Company record notes he completed his apprenticeship on April 10, 1706.
