Even though he was already married and had two children, four year old Novell and two year old Doyn, David Boyd missed being one of the over 67 million men required to serve in "The War to End All Wars" by just a couple of days.
He had already been called up by the draft to serve in WWI, but the cease-fire on November 11, 1918, ended the war just before he was supposed to report for induction.
Katie, his younger sister, had sons who were among the nearly 10 million men who were killed during the 52 months (July 1914 through November 1918) that this war was fought in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, China and off the coast of South and North America.
