Dathel and Paul Webber moved to Qulin, Butler County, Missouri, shortly after their marriage. Qulin is were Paul's sister, Eva Webber-Wright, and her family had recently purchased farm land and settled. The senior Webbers (Homer and Hayes) were preparing to go there, too. It was a place to start anew by purchasing land to clear and to farm.
Paul and Dathel never purchased land there, but eventually rented a large farm often called the Qulin Ranch. An old house on that property, located about one mile south and a quarter mile east of Qulin, was their home from the mid-1940s until 1958. It had served as a boarding house for early-day loggers. The upstairs was a playhouse for the three children who created tall tales about small holes (bullet holes?) found in the walls and other scars in the old wood. In their made-up tales, many a cowboy died during fights.
Dathel and all three children were members of the Church of Christ; Paul encouraged their membership but never joined nor attended.
They left Missouri for California in May of 1958 hoping to find new work there. Both worked diligently while there, but six months later they decided to return to Missouri. They spent subsequent years sampling various ways to earn their living and they ultimately returned to farming in the Harviell, Missouri area.
Their children grew up to be contributing and hard-working citizens. By 2010 seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren had been added to their family tree.
