Ida Lee Lane Johnson Blaylock Cox

A Hard Life ... Remembered Fondly

Ida Lee Lane was the first child of Moses Lane and his fourth wife (of five total wives), Martha Vandergriff. Ida lived all of her too short life in northeastern Arkansas.

In 1903 she married Thomas Johnson in Randolph County, Arkansas. But he succumbed to pneumonia just a few months later ... leaving Ida as an 18 year old widow.

The next year Ida married Henry Releous Blaylock on December 11, 1904. He had already been married four times and was then a 43 year old widower with some children as old as Ida and others still needing raising. Together Ida and Henry had eight additional children: Lee, Raymond, John, Harry, Don, Marie, Wilta, and Kenneth. Then after 19 years of marriage, Ida was widowed a second time at just 38 years of age when Henry died in 1923 at the age of 62.

Six years later in 1929 when Ida was 44 years old she once again married, for the third time, to Joe Cox. But she died 9 years later just after her 53rd birthday.

Given the times and that she so often came face to face with the death of her spouse and expected provider, the life of Ida Lee Lane was not easy nor long. But she left a heritage of family in her wake who fondly remembered her. Her children had a small monument placed on her grave engraved simply "In memory of Mother".
