When I (Roger Baxter) was in the first grade I contracted Scarlet Fever. The doctor gave me a shot and prescribed some (terrible tasting) liquid medicine and ordered that I must stay inside darkened rooms for several days to protect my eyes.
My parents and I lived on the next street over and back to back from the Blaylock house on the northeastern edge of Rockford, Illinois. Back in those days almost every family only had one automobile and since my Dad was at work, my Mom didn't have access to transportation. So she called her sister-in-law, Cona Blaylock, to see if my cousin, David, could go to pickup my medicine on his motorcycle.
I can remember David riding up to our little trailer house (my Dad was still in the process of building our new home there) on his big, loud motorcycle bringing my medicine. And then after making that delivery of my medicine, he roared off on his motorcycle to join the Air Force.
